RideLondon For Leukaemia CARE

Our very own Director Matt Lloyd is participating in this years RideLondon taking place on Sunday 1st August.  Cycling 100miles around many famous London sights, Matt is raising money on behalf of our retained client Leukaemia CARE.

Matt aims to raise £500 for the charity and to help towards his final fundraising push he will be having his legs waxed for donations next Friday at Stripes Beauty Boutique in Worcester.

Matt says ‘Working closely with Leukaemia CARE I hear about the patients and their families and really wanted to do something to support such a great team and the services they provide.   I cycle, so this was the perfect challenge for me. It will push my boundaries, especially the box hill section of the route!’

Matt has it on good authority from many of his cycling friends that smooth legs will help him go faster. We think they might just want to see him in pain.  Surprisingly or not, we’ve had a few clients and even more members of the Ventutec team wanting to be the first to rip off a strip of wax!  Good luck Matt !!

If you would like to help Matt reach his fundraising target and sponsor him to have his legs waxed, please go to: https://www.justgiving.com/mattlloyd100miles

Views, Opinions and Answers in One Place. ‘Your Democracy’ Website Launches Ahead of Elections.

With the up and coming election in sight, Ventutec have been working hard on their latest web offering, a new website which matches individuals views against the votes of their MP and their local community.

YourDemocracy.org.uk, the brain child of John Hunter, aims to give more clarity between MPs and their voters.

The Your Democracy website checks the answers to questions posed to MPs in parliament over the last 4 years against all 650 MPs, giving the user the opportunity to see how their values match those of their MP.

John hopes to see the website play a key role amongst voters, proving an easy, accessible site for the public to put questions to their MPs and to understand if their MP has truly fought for their values and those of the wider constituency during this parliament.

Matt Lloyd, Ventutec Director said “We thought John’s idea was great.  We often don’t have enough visibility of our MP’s policies, what they are standing for and what that could mean to us as those living within the local constituency.  Your Democracy gives us as voters the power to find out more information, to match our views with those of our local MP’s.  The site will definitely allow us to make a better informed vote”

Why we Sponsor a Cricket Club?

Yes that’s me, the uncomfortable looking guy in the suit, not that one – that’s Kevin Savage my fellow director, looking just as uncomfortable, i’m the other one with the tie.

How did I get there and why?

Worcestershire County Cricket Club & Ventutec

This is the second year we (Ventutec) have sponsored Worcestershire County Cricket Club and as Marketing Director I am always asked, why? What return do we have from being a sponsor?

Sponsoring something, anything, such as an event, a fun run to your local football team is a big decision especially when budgets are tight and you are unsure if your money could be best spent elsewhere? or can it? There is a simple calculation ‘ROI’ (return on Investment) where the money spent has to generate sales greater than the original sum – how does this compute, after all how many of your target audience will see your logo on the arm of a cricket sleeve?

But why Cricket? To be honest I don’t really know the rules, all I know is when the ball is hit into the crowd, it’s not just funny to see everyone duck out the way, it also means a Six! When the ball rolls up to the boundary it’s a four, when the stumps are knocked over or the ball is caught, you are out! That’s all you need to know, isn’t it? The scoring is still a mystery to me…

I’ve found cricket as such a pleasant and relaxing game to watch, there is’t that intense 90 minutes of play that you get with football and rugby, you can dip in and out of the game, get a drink, chat and network and still be able to get back into the game.

Therefore, linking cricket with business has been a breeze, ‘Let’s meet at the cricket’ is a much better start to the conversation….it’s great to have an event going on which you can invite a potential client to. I normally meet in the new facilities at Worcester, called ‘The View’ with the cricket playing in the background.  A relaxing atmosphere, the occasional cheer,  helps the conversation, why have a meeting in a windowless meeting room, who says you even have to meet clients in a room at all?

Yes your logo is visible on the billboards and you meet other likeminded businesses, but that’s not all. Sponsoring a team is a talking point, it shows your stance in the community.

Can you see that red shape on the sleeve – that’s our logo, that is!

Here is our logo on the sleeve of Moeen Ali who is fast become a most recognisable face in cricket – is that luck or well planned? Probably a bit of both, but you need to be in it to win it and getting involved is better than doing nothing – so my advice is ‘get out there and be seen’. Your competition will be doing nothing, so you are one step ahead.

You maybe thinking ‘well Matt, this all sounds great, but what about ROI?’ Well…. From our support of Worcestershire Country Cricket Club we have made some great connections who have now become regular clients, our existing clients feel rewarded with invites to matches and meetings, promoting loyalty and going beyond this, our local connections have recommended us wide and far.  The figures, although can’t be disclosed (I’m just the Marketing Director) show that as an agency it really is all about who you meet and the quality of work and relationships we maintain thereafter.

Is your website “Mobile Friendly” ready?

We are used to Google changing the rules when it comes to Search Engine Optimisation and as a digital design agency, it’s our job to keep on top of these changes. But the recent announcement has the most impact on so many websites out there.

You may have heard, Google now expects websites to be Mobile Friendly and guess what, there are still a number of you out there who know your website is just not doing the job.

Websites which are not mobile friendly can still be viewed on a mobile using the good old ‘Pinch and Zoom’ technique – but how annoying is that after awhile. If you think it’s annoying, just imagine your customers trying to find or use your website!

There are two ways of making your website mobile friendly: ‘Responsive’ and ‘Mobile specific’.

A responsive website is where the website re-sizes and repositions all the page information to fit the smaller screen size. Where a mobile specific website has been designed to detect ‘viewing on a mobile’ and displays a mobile view, usually starting the URL with ‘m.’

The mobile specific website is the preference of the experts as it allows you to display just the key information the viewer requires and not the whole page which often gets lengthy. We normally base our design of mobile specific pages on the results from Google Analytics reports and looking at the history of those already viewing the website on a mobile.

Ventutec help national blood cancer charity launch new mobile site

As the retained digital agency for national blood cancer support charity Leukaemia CARE, we are delighted to have designed and developed a new mobile website to further increase the charity’s digital presence.

The new mobile version of the website, which is optimised for smartphones and tablets, has been built to display the same valuable information as the desktop website, but navigation and information is displayed for quicker accessibility on smaller screen sizes.

Following research into the way people access the charity’s information online, Leukaemia CARE recognised the need to introduce a mobile-friendly version of their website to improve user experience, presenting information and support as patients and carers wanted it.

Matt Lloyd, Director at Ventutec said: ‘Mobile website accessibility is a growing trend. Mobile friendly websites are now recognised within search results and users expect a seamless user experience across multiple devices.  Leukaemia CARE’s reaction to the needs of their audience highlights the quality of care and service they provide.”

Whilst the Leukaemia CARE desktop website is ‘responsive’, meaning that the pages automatically resize to the size of the device, users were required to manoeuvre around smaller screens to access the information they wanted.  The dedicated mobile version detects users accessing the site on a smartphone or tablet and now displays a specifically designed site.  Users can call the 24-hour CARE line, directly from the homepage, as well as find a local support group, request free cancer information, book onto a patient conference, sign up to a fundraising event and make a donation.

Kayla Maryon, Communications Manager at Leukaemia CARE said: “ The new mobile website is part of a broader strategy to expand our online content. The internet is one of the first places many people turn to when they, or a loved one, is diagnosed with a blood cancer.”

What’s Hot In SEO For 2015?

Just this week we were filmed for a promotional video for some Search Engine Optimisation training we will be running over the next few months. One of the questions we were asked and are so often asked by our clients is ‘what’s the next big thing? What should I be concentrating on’ and ‘where should my efforts be focused?’

As an agency we work with many different clients across lots of industries and we understand how difficult it is to find resources and time to do absolutely everything.  Here are our top tips right now that you really can not afford to be ignoring for your SEO improvements.

Google’s latest search engine algorithms focus more and more on content, which means there is less focus on individual keywords and more focus on whether or not the content is actually relevant to the keywords.

This means that as a site owner you should continue to generate high-quality content that uses appropriate keywords within it, but content that creates a relevancy to your overall target phrases.

The use of long-tail and conversational keyword phrases will grow in importance and you should place your effort towards engaging in a conversation with search engine users, building up content and pages that meet their needs of what they are searching for and the terms they are using to get there.

Google has always said that it feels responsive websites provide the best user experience, and recently started including a “mobile-friendly” notation next to websites in mobile search results that are indeed mobile friendly.

The importance of having a website that is mobile friendly is recognised by search engines and will stand it in good stead within the search positions in 2015.

Don’t forget that now mobile search has overtaken desktop search it is important for your site to be and remain mobile friendly.

Clean & Valuable Links
Inbound links to your website will always be one of the most important elements to your SEO strategies but the days of building links on irrelevant blogs and chasing large quantities of links are over. Earning a single link on a high-quality relevant website is now more valuable than ever. Links that are earned through good quality content or a genuine connection are the ones that will add true value to your SEO.

Social Signals
Search Engines have begun to recognise social signals to elevate in search results. Eventually, I would expect to see content and social signals integrated, with content of higher quality getting more social shares and thus rising higher in the search engine results.  The more popular and respected search engines view your website as by way of shares and likes the higher importance and therefore position it is likely to achieve in results.

If you would like to know more about any of the elements above or would just like a chat about how your current website stacks up to SEO principles get in touch today.
